BC Milk continues to carefully review the significant increase in demand for dairy products from the impact of the measures taken to reduce the spread of the COVID-19 virus. The Board is still seeing strong demand for dairy products being purchased through grocery stores, but we are currently seeing a reduction in cream requirements due to the closure of restaurants and coffee chains due to the need for social distancing.

The Board is seeing the risk of an oversupply of milk and cream which will unfortunately result in necessary milk disposal measures. In order to continue to manage requirements, the Board has now cancelled previously announced incentive days for April and May.

Incentive Days

  • March 2020             2 Days
  • April 2020                3 Days CANCELLED
  • May 2020                 3 Days CANCELLED

Organic Milk Production -Sleeve

In order to meet current supply requirements, the Board issued an additional 3% sleeve on all quota holdings for an effective period of March – May 2020. This increased sleeve will remain as the fluid demand for organic milk remains strong. However the Board continues to monitor the situation closely. This sleeve will not impact the calculation for the September 1, 2020 sleeve.

Due to the uncertainty of the market impact on dairy during the crisis, the Board will continue to monitor the situation closely and may need to implement further actions with short notice. We will continue to provide regular updates to producers on any further production changes. Thank you for your ongoing patience and please stay well and continue to look after yourselves and your families.
